Subcompact car is a North American term used to describe automobiles whose class size is smaller than that of a compact car, usually not exceeding 165 inches (4,191 mm) in length), but larger than a microcar. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a passenger car is classified as subcompact if it has between 85 cubic feet (2,407 L) and 99 cu ft (2,803 L) of interior volume.
Ford Ka
The Ford Ka is a city car from the Ford Motor Company marketed in Europe and elsewhere. The current European version is produced in Tychy, Poland, while the model sold in Latin America is built in Brazil and Argentina.
The Ka has been produced since 1996 and entered its second generation in 2008.
Fiat 500
The Fiat 500 or Fiat Nuova 500 is a city car built by Italian automaker Fiat since 2007. The car is currently produced in Tychy, Poland by Fiat Auto Poland S.A. and in Toluca, Mexico by Chrysler Group LLC. Strictly a four-seater, three-door hatchback, identical to the retro concept car Trepiùno presented in 2004. Designer Roberto Giolito's current Fiat 500 is a direct crib from Dante Giacosa's 1957 original rear-engined Fiat 500.
Daewoo Matiz
The Daewoo Matiz is a city car produced by the South Korean automaker GM Korea, marketed worldwide since 1998 when it replaced the Daewoo Tico. The Matiz was originally designed by Italdesign Giugiaro, and has received two facelifts. Various generations of the car have been sold under both Daewoo and various GM brands, and have been manufactured and marketed under license agreements by local automakers in several countries. The Matiz was built between 1998 and 2006 over 2.3 million units in the world.
Toyota iQ
Toyota iQ is a microcar introduced at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show, with Japanese sales beginning in October 2008 and European sales in January 2009. The production iQ followed a concept vehicle presented at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. North American version of the iQ is slated for release in early 2011, branded as the Scion iQ.
Peugeot 107
The Peugeot 107 is a city car produced by French automaker Peugeot since mid 2005.The 107 was developed by the B-Zero project of PSA Peugeot Citroën in a joint-venture with Toyota; the Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo are badge engineered versions of the same car, although the Aygo has more detail differences than the C1. All three are built at the new facilities of the Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech joint venture in the city of Kolin, Czech Republic.
Tata Nano
The Tata Nano is an inexpensive, rear-engined, four-passenger city car built by the Indian company Tata Motors and is aimed primarily at the Indian domestic market.Tata Motors began selling its "one-lakh car" in March, 2009. The cheapest car in the world today, though the price continues to rise due to increasing material costs. Its nickname, "one-lakh car" is due to the Nano's price point, near Indian Rupee 100,000 (one lakh rupees).
